It stretches across space and time, draws in a host of characters, teems with donclela happenings and takes great licence with history. I recommend this book to anyone with historical interest. I think I’m going to experience another culture shock when I get back to my daily life. My neighbours seeing my open mouth offered me a mint, I think they left in the interval. I enjoyed this play and am certainly planning to visit a performance. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Jeanne d’Arc is such a Mary Donella here The story of Johanna Jeanne d’Arc may not be the most historically correct, but it was beautifully written.
This is such a divine work.
As with all of Shakespeare’s historical plays, don’t come to Schiller’s The Maid of Orleans if you want a strict biography of its subject. And what a fine example of Romantic drama it is!
I quite liked this particular school-read. I once saw a fantastically bad production of this in a small town theatre view spoiler [ it was in Kassel where in penance for my sins I was working at the time hide spoiler ]. View all 10 comments. Schiller dde sich zwar nicht ganz an die historischen Vorgaben gehalten aber das macht das Drama erst so gut.

Fortunately he has a fighting maiden within his court too, his lover Agnes Sorel, whose martial zeal matches Joan’s: Acts are full of drama and spectacle, and there are memorable moments, such as the appearance of the dark orlaens, or Joan’s pitiless encounter with Mortimer.
Beim zweiten Mal immer noch gut lesbar. The story of Jeanne d’Arc has always interested me and Schiller’s donceella – though perhaps not the historically most accurate version – was pleasing to read.
What makes her interesting as a character is that she struggles with being chosen once she falls in love typical of Sturm und Drang, at first sight and almost is her own downfall due to her own shame.
When an actor uttered the words Ich bins they all burst out laughing, as it happened those could well have been the only original words of schiler play to have survived the transmission to the stage. However she is not allowed to fall for any man or her success will doncellx. Lists with This Book.
